Responsive Feeding and Diverse Menu Planning in Child Care Settings

Saturday, November 16, 2024

9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

NSCC Ivany Campus, Dartmouth, NS

NSCC Ivany Campus is located at 80 Mawiomi Place on the Dartmouth waterfront. Registration and the morning presentation will take place at the waterfront theatre. Volunteers will be on site to provide directions. Campus parking is free on weekends.

About:

This event is intended for early childhood educators, cooks, directors, inclusion coordinators and any child care staff involved in food preparation and serving. It will include a morning presentation by Jessie-Lee McIsaac and Olga Levin of the Early Childhood Collaborative Research Centre at MSVU about responsive feeding and their experience with the Celebrate Feeding project.

Participants can attend an interactive showcase to meet representatives from community organizations that promote nutrition. Collect stamps in your showcase passport to be entered in a prize draw.

Lunch will be catered by Chartwells. Please indicate any dietary considerations you would like us to share with the caterers on the registration form.

Our afternoon session will be introduced by speakers who will share their experiences implementing responsive feeding strategies and incorporating diverse foods into menu planning. We will be joined by Twyla Nichols from the YWCA Halifax who will share her experiences incorporating foods from different cultures into menu planning. Participants will have an opportunity to share their experiences and ideas about how to incorporate what they have learned into practice.

Participants will be asked to contribute to a virtual cook book that will contain snack recipes and summaries of the event's discussions.

PD Certificate:

Participants will receive a certificate for completion of 6 PD hours that will be sent electronically following the event.
