What is RPL?
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that evaluates your past education and professional experience to determine if you meet the criteria for a Level 2 Early Childhood Educator (ECE) classification in Nova Scotia.
RPL is not a course.
It consists of an exam and interview designed to assess your knowledge and skills.
Successful completion does not grant a diploma or credential from a college or university.
It is not transferable to college/university PLAR (Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition) processes.
Am I Eligible?
You may apply for RPL if you meet all the following criteria:
A minimum of 6,500 hours of on-the-floor experience as an ECE, and
One of the following Nova Scotia classifications:
ECE Entry Level Classification
Level 1 Classification
School-Age Designation

The following supporting documents will be required to complete your application for the RPL Program:
Your resume or CV
Proof of your Nova Scotia classification certificate
Proof of ECE diplomas or degrees
Proof of any non-ECE diplomas or degrees
Confirmation of your hours worked as an ECE (Employer Reference Form)
If English is not your first language, a language proficiency certificate showing Level 7 IELTS or a comparable level, or an acceptable alternative to establish fluency in English at a university level.
